Alright, folks, gather ’round, gather ’round! Let me tell you about this little project I’ve been working on – remaking the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG, a real classic, that one.
First off, I gotta say, I’m no fancy designer like that Yves Saint Laurent fella, but I’ve got a good eye and steady hands. So I took a long look at this bag, studied it up and down. It’s a simple design, but elegant, you know? Got myself some good quality leather, not the cheap stuff that falls apart after a week. I wanted something that’d last, something you could pass down to your grandkids, maybe.
- Started by sketching out the pattern, real rough-like.
- Then I cut the leather, piece by piece. It is important to make sure every edge is neat.
- Next, time to stitch. Now, this is where it gets tricky. You gotta be patient, make sure every stitch is even, tight. I used a strong thread, something that wouldn’t snap easily. This part took a while, but I put on some good music and just got in the zone, you know?
Then there’s the hardware, the buckle, the little metal bits. I found some that looked pretty close to the original. Not the exact same, mind you, but close enough. Attached those, making sure they were secure. And of course, checked the serial number placement. They usually put it on a small leather tab inside one of the pockets or pressed into the interior. I followed the original placement as close as I could.
Finished the whole thing, and I gotta say, it looked pretty darn good! Not a perfect replica, but a solid effort, if I do say so myself. It felt good in my hands, sturdy, well-made.
Now, some folks might say, “Why bother making a fake?” Well, I ain’t trying to fool anyone. This ain’t about passing it off as the real deal. It’s about the craft, the challenge, you know? It is seeing if I could recreate something beautiful, something classic, with my own two hands.
And you know what? I think I did alright. It might not be a genuine YSL, but it’s got a bit of my heart and soul in it. That’s gotta count for something, right?
