Today, I want to share my experience with remaking a Patek Philippe, specifically the Calatrava 6119G-001. Now, I’ve always been a fan of fancy watches, and this one, in particular, caught my eye when I saw it in the official store. It was shiny, it was sleek, but man, it was expensive. Too rich for my blood, honestly.
So, I started looking into getting a remake. It sounded like a good deal, you get the look without the crazy price tag. After some digging, I found a few places online that did remakes and settled on one. The ordering process was a bit of a hassle, I am not gonna lie. Lots of back-and-forth emails, you know the drill. It took some time, but I finally placed my order for this 6119G-001 remake. It is not a big watch, 40 mm across and about 8.53 mm thick. Perfect for me.
While I waited, I did more research on the watch itself. The Calatrava 6119G, it’s kind of a classic style. People say it’s a good investment, but I’m not sure about that. Anyway, I was excited about the old-timey look it had.
The wait was killer, let me tell you. Every day I was checking my email like a hawk, hoping for that shipping notification. Finally, after what felt like forever, it arrived. I ripped open that package faster than a kid on Christmas morning. And there it was, my remake Calatrava 6119G-001.
First Impressions
- Looks: It looked pretty good, I gotta say. The charcoal gray dial was spot on, and the white gold finish was decent. It didn’t have that same shine as the real deal, but it was close enough.
- Feel: It felt a little lighter than I expected. The real ones are pretty hefty, but this one was lighter. Still, it had some weight to it, so it didn’t feel cheap.
- Movement: The movement was, well, it worked. It’s not the same fancy movement you get in the genuine article, but it kept time. I heard the real one has something like 212 parts and is super thin, about 2.55 mm, this one was a bit thicker. I think it was something like 3.3 mm.
I wore it around for a few weeks, and you know what? I liked it. I got a few compliments, and nobody could tell it was a remake unless I told them. I did notice a few minor things, like the strap wasn’t the best quality, and the crown felt a bit loose. But overall, for the price I paid, I was happy with it.
So, would I recommend getting a remake? I don’t know. It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want the real deal, save up your money and get the genuine Patek Philippe. But if you just want the look and don’t care about the prestige, then a remake might be the way to go. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait and don’t expect perfection.
That’s my story about remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119G-001. Hope you found it helpful. Or at least mildly entertaining.
