Today, I’m going to take on something really cool – remaking a Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. It’s a classic style, and I’ve always wanted to see if I could bring my own touch to it. I love how elegant it looks, so let’s see how this goes.
Getting Started
First things first, I gathered all my tools and materials. I laid everything out on my workbench, making sure I had enough space to work comfortably. I’ve got my tiny screwdrivers, some tweezers, polishing cloths, and a bunch of other stuff that I think I’ll need. I also pulled up a few pictures of the original watch online to use as a reference. I mean, I’ve looked at this watch a million times, but it’s good to have a guide.
Taking Apart the Base Watch
I started with a basic watch that had a similar shape and size. I carefully unscrewed the back and took a peek inside. It’s always amazing to see all those tiny gears and springs working together. I took my time removing each part, making sure to keep everything organized. I used a small container with different compartments to store the screws and other bits and pieces. I didn’t want to lose anything!
Designing the New Dial
Next up was designing the new dial. I sketched out a few ideas on paper first. This part took me some time because I wanted it to look just right. After a few attempts, I settled on a design that I felt captured the essence of the Gondolo 7041R-001 but with a bit of my personal style. It was a mix of the old and the new, and I was pretty excited about it.
Crafting the Dial
Now, this was the tricky part. I used a thin sheet of metal for the dial. I carefully measured and cut it to the right size, and then started working on the details. I used some engraving tools to create the patterns and markers on the dial. It was slow going, but I wanted to get it as close to perfect as possible. After several hours, I was finally happy with how it looked.
Painting and Finishing
With the dial engraved, it was time to add some color. I mixed up some paint to match the classic look of the original watch. I applied the paint in thin layers, letting each layer dry completely before adding the next. This part was a test of patience, but it was worth it. After the paint dried, I added a clear coat to protect it and give it a nice shine.
Reassembling the Watch
Putting the watch back together was like solving a puzzle. I carefully placed each component back into its place, making sure everything was aligned correctly. I started with the movement, then added the dial, and finally the hands. It was a delicate process, but I took my time, and slowly but surely, the watch started to take shape.
Polishing and Final Touches
Once the watch was reassembled, I gave it a good polish. I used a soft cloth to buff the case and the dial, making everything shine. I also added a new strap that I thought matched the style of the watch perfectly. It was the final touch that really brought everything together.
The Result
After all that work, I finally finished my remake of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001. It was a labor of love, and I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s not exactly the same as the original, but it’s got my personal touch, and that’s what makes it special. This project was a lot of fun, and it taught me a lot about watchmaking and design. I can’t wait to start my next project!
