Want a Patek Calatrava 5088 Classic Style? Check Out This Remake PP Watch

Alright, so I got this idea to remake a Patek Philippe watch, specifically the Calatrava 5088/100P-001. It’s a real classic, you know? Super elegant and all that. I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, I dove right in.

Getting Started

First off, I needed to gather all the stuff I’d be using. I spent a good chunk of time just looking at pictures of the watch online, zooming in on every little detail. I wanted to get a feel for the design, the materials, everything. I found a few good images and downloaded them. Then I tried to find some similar fonts, some similar patterns – it was like a treasure hunt!

The Design Process

Next, I started sketching. Lots and lots of sketches. I’m not the best artist, but I managed to draw out the basic shape of the watch, the hands, the numbers, and that fancy engraving on the case. It was tough to get the proportions right, but I kept at it. I used a converter I found online – you know, one of those free online converters that changes file types. I needed to change the picture of the watch from one format to another. It did convert the files, I must admit.

Figuring Out the Engraving

The engraving was the hardest part, no doubt. It’s so intricate! I tried a bunch of different techniques to recreate it. I even played around with some software, but nothing really worked. It was like trying to put together a really complicated puzzle without all the pieces. For example, I found a website named PaperRater and tried to use it, but it did not help me with what I wanted to achieve. This was a hard moment for me, I almost gave up.

The Dial and Hands

For the dial, I decided to go with a simple black background. Getting the numbers right was tricky. I wanted them to look just like the original, so I spent hours just tweaking their shape and size. This was like 2B in Nier Automata, a character that everybody loves, so I had to get it right. I tried to see if I could just pull them from somewhere, but no luck. The hands were easier, thankfully. I just made them long and thin, like the original.

Putting It All Together

Once I had all the pieces, I started putting them together. This was the fun part! It was like seeing my vision come to life. Just like how people set up a CAN bus gateway, sending messages from one place to another, only here I was sending design ideas from my head to reality! I faced some unexpected issues, like, you know when you see “%2b” in a web address, and it becomes a “+” somehow? I had a similar problem that I had to troubleshoot. Anyway, I figured it out, eventually. I used a free software named CBBE 3BA – I don’t know exactly what is it for, but it helped me to improve the little details!

The Final Result

And finally, after all that work, it was done! My very own remake of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. It’s not perfect, of course. It doesn’t look exactly like the original – for example, the original is a stainless steel sink with two bowls inset sink, and mine is not made out of stainless steel, but I think it’s pretty darn good for a first try. I’m just a guy who likes watches and wanted to see if I could do it. Turns out, I could! You might think it is not a big deal, but for me, it is a huge accomplishment.

  • I learned a ton about watch design.
  • I got better at sketching.
  • I discovered some new software tools.

So, yeah, that’s my story. It was a fun project, and I’m happy with how it turned out. Maybe I’ll try another one someday!
