Alright, let’s talk about this little project I got myself into. So, I decided to remake that YSL June Box Bag. Yeah, the one with the fancy name. I’ve always liked how it looked, kinda classic but also kinda modern, you know?
First thing I did was look up a bunch of pictures of the real deal. I mean, I stared at those photos for hours, zooming in and out, trying to see every little detail. The stitching, the way the leather folds, that shiny YSL logo on the front – gotta get that right.
Then, I started sketching. Nothing fancy, just doodling on some paper, trying to figure out the measurements, how the pieces would fit together. It’s like a puzzle, this bag-making thing.
- Choosing the leather was a whole other adventure. I went to this fabric store downtown, the one with all the rolls of leather stacked up to the ceiling. Smelled amazing in there. I spent a good hour just feeling different leathers, trying to find one that felt right. Ended up going with a nice, soft calfskin.
- Next, I had to cut out all the pieces. This was tricky. Mess up here, and the whole thing’s ruined. I used a rotary cutter – that’s like a pizza cutter for fabric – and a metal ruler. Slow and steady, that’s the key.
- Sewing it all together was probably the most challenging part. I’m no expert with a sewing machine, but I managed. Took a lot of deep breaths, unpicked a few seams, redid some stitching. But eventually, it started to look like a bag.
The Logo
That shiny YSL logo on the front? That was a whole project in itself. I ended up buying a metal one online, and then carefully attached it to the front flap. It’s those little details that make a difference.
And there you have it. My homemade YSL June Box Bag. Is it perfect? Nah. There are a few wonky stitches here and there. But you know what? I made it. And I’m pretty darn proud of it. It’s got that vintage vibe, that classic look. And it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Plus, I learned a heck of a lot along the way. Maybe I’ll try making another one someday. But for now, I’m just gonna enjoy using this one.
Honestly, it’s way cheaper to buy a dupe, like the ones from Quince. But hey, where’s the fun in that, right? Making something with your own two hands, that’s where it’s at. It feels good. Real good.
