Okay, so, I’ve been wanting a Fendi Mon Tresor bucket bag for like, ever. But those things are crazy expensive. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? It sounded fun, and I do enjoy a good DIY challenge.
First, I spent hours looking at pictures of the real deal online. I really wanted to understand how it was put together. I found some information about the original bag – it’s made of brown calfskin, has this FF motif, and gold hardware. Good to know, but calfskin? Yeah, that wasn’t happening. I needed something more budget-friendly.
Materials
- Brown faux leather – way cheaper than calfskin, and honestly, it looks pretty good.
- Some black fabric paint for the FF design, because hand-painting sounded like a nightmare.
- Gold-colored metal rings and a chain for the straps because I couldn’t find the same Fendi hardwear.
- Lining fabric. Just some basic cotton I had lying around.
I started by making a pattern. I drew some circles for the base and then a rectangle for the body, and then I cut them out of the faux leather, leaving some seam allowance. Then came the fun part – the FF logo. I freehand drew it onto the leather with a pencil, but you can use some paper to make a template. This was tedious, but I took my time and filled it in carefully with the black fabric paint.
Sewing it together was a bit tricky. I used my trusty old sewing machine. I sewed the body piece into a cylinder first, and then I attached the circular base. It wasn’t perfect, but it was starting to look like a bucket bag! Then I made a lining with my cotton fabric and slipped it inside, hand-stitching it to the top edge.
For the straps, I used the gold rings and chain. I made two straps, just like the original, so I could wear it different ways. I attached them to the bag, and boom! Done.
It’s definitely not an exact replica, but you know what? I’m super proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Plus, I saved a ton of money. And honestly, it looks pretty darn cute. I might even try making it in different colors sometime. Maybe a bright red one? We’ll see!
