Yeah, those. And there’s this one, made by a company called Patek Philippe—never heard of ’em before this, but apparently, they’re a big deal.
The watch I’m talking about is called the Calatrava 6119R-001. What a name, right? It’s a mouthful, I’ll give you that. Now, I’m no watch expert, but I thought, “Why not try to remake this thing myself?” I mean, how hard can it be? Turns out, pretty darn hard.
First things first, I had to do some digging. Found some online stores selling remakes of these high-end watches, including this Calatrava 6119R-001. Prices were all over the place, so I had to compare and see what others were saying. Some folks were happy with their remakes, others, not so much. It’s a gamble, you know?
Anyway, I decided to take the plunge. Ordered the parts online—the case, the movement, the dial, all that jazz. It took a while, but they eventually arrived. Let me tell you, the wait was nerve-wracking. I’ve never seen so many tiny screws in my life.
Now, the fun part—putting it all together. I cleared off my workbench, got my tools ready, and started assembling. I found a few videos online, that helped a bit. Following the steps was like a difficult recipe. And I had to wind the damn thing myself. It’s called “manual winding”. Who knew?
- Step one: Carefully place the movement into the case. This was like performing surgery, I swear. One wrong move and you’re screwed.
- Step two: Attach the dial. This was easier said than done. Those little hands are delicate, let me tell you. I held my breath more times than I could count.
- Step three: Put on the crystal, or the glass, whatever you call it. This part was actually kind of satisfying. Snapped right into place.
- Step four: Attach the strap. I chose a leather one, ’cause I’m classy like that.
After hours of work, I got it finished. My remake of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. I put that bad boy on my wrist and I have to say, it looked pretty good.
It wasn’t perfect, mind you. There were a few imperfections here and there, but hey, I made it myself. It’s got character, you know? Plus, it keeps time, which is the whole point, right? And you know what? It felt pretty good to wear something I made with my own two hands.
So, would I recommend this to others? I don’t know. It was a lot of work, and it’s definitely not for everyone. But if you’re up for a challenge and you like the idea of making your own fancy watch, then go for it. Just be prepared to sweat a little, and maybe curse a lot.
