Alright, so, I’ve been messing around with this project lately, and it’s a doozy. I got this wild idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe watch. Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy. But not just any Patek Philippe, we’re talking about the Calatrava 5088/100P-001. This thing is a real beauty, a classy piece of work, you know?

I started by looking at a ton of pictures online. I mean, hours just staring at this watch from every angle. I needed to get a feel for it, you know? The details, the way it looks, everything. It’s called the Calatrava 5088/100P-001, which is a mouthful, but I had to get it right.

Then, I started sketching. Trying to get the proportions right, the design of the dial, the hands, the whole nine yards. It was rough, I won’t lie. My sketches looked like a five-year-old did them, but I kept at it. I had to make sure my basic model is right.

Materials, Materials, Materials

Next up, I had to think about what I was going to use to actually make this thing. The real one is made of platinum, with an alligator skin strap. I’m not exactly rolling in dough, so I had to get creative. I found some metal that looked kinda like platinum, at least to my untrained eye. For the strap, I opted for some crocodile skin I found. Close enough, right?

Putting It All Together

This was the hardest part, hands down. I spent days, maybe weeks, just fiddling with tiny parts. Trying to get the mechanism to work, even just a little bit, was a nightmare. I broke a few parts, cursed a lot, but finally, I managed to put something together that resembled the Calatrava. I used automatic movement to make it looks more real.

  • First, I shaped the case.
  • Then, I worked on the dial, which was a real pain.
  • After that, I assembled the movement, which took forever.
  • Finally, I attached the strap.

It’s not perfect, not by a long shot. It doesn’t really tell time accurately, and it’s definitely not made of platinum. But, you know what? I made it. It’s my own little version of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. And I’m pretty darn proud of it, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges. It’s a start, and that’s all that matters. Maybe one day I’ll get good enough to make a really convincing replica, but for now, this will do just fine.
