Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this PRADA Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while. It’s a classic, right? But that price tag… ouch! So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? I mean, how hard could it be? (Spoiler alert: harder than I thought, but still doable!)
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. I found some pretty decent Saffino-like leather online. It wasn’t the real deal, of course, but it had a similar texture and feel. Then, I gathered all the other bits and bobs: lining fabric, thread, a heavy-duty needle, and some gold-colored hardware to match the original Prada bag.
Getting Started
I started by carefully studying the original bag. I took tons of pictures, measured every side, and sketched out a rough pattern. Then, I started cutting the leather. This was definitely the most nerve-wracking part. One wrong cut, and I’d be out a big piece of leather! Luckily, I took it slow and managed to get all the pieces cut out without any major mishaps.
Sewing
Next, I started sewing. I used my sewing machine for most of the straight seams and hand-stitched the trickier parts. It took a while to get the hang of it. That leather was thick! But slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I was surprised about the sewing machine can handle it. I thought I would break it.
Putting It All Together
- I sewed the main body pieces together.
- Then, I attached the bottom panel.
- After that, I added the lining and the interior pockets.
- Finally, I attached the handles and the hardware.
It was a lot of work, I won’t lie. There were times when I wanted to give up. But seeing the bag come together, piece by piece, was so satisfying! And when I finally finished, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It actually looked pretty good! It was not perfect, of course. It is the first time I made a bag. But I am proud of it.
Of course, it’s not exactly like the original Prada bag. But it’s pretty darn close, especially considering it cost me a fraction of the price! Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special. I can’t wait to start using it! And who knows, maybe this will be the start of a new hobby. I might even try to make other bags in the future. We’ll see!
