This here watch, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s a real fancy thing, ain’t it? They say it’s a remake, whatever that means. I seen a picture, looks like it’s got a bunch of numbers and such. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout the price, some big number, like $35,882. Lordy, that’s more than I made in my whole life pickin’ cotton!
They call it a “Calatrava,” sounds like somethin’ you’d eat. And this one, it’s the 5226G-001. Got all these numbers, like a secret code or somethin’. Reminds me of them fancy cars with all them letters and numbers on the back. This here watch, it’s white gold, they say. Now, I don’t know much ’bout gold, ‘cept it’s shiny and worth a pretty penny.
They say you gotta wait a long time to get one of these. Nine months, maybe a whole year! Like waitin’ for a baby to be born, I reckon. Back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy watches. We just used the sun to tell time.
- This one’s got somethin’ called a “power reserve,” lasts 45 hours.
- What’s that mean? Don’t know, sounds complicated.
- Maybe it’s like how long you can go without eatin’.
They say this Patek Philippe is a watchmakin’ perfection. Sounds like somethin’ they’d say on them TV shows. But I guess if you’re spendin’ that much money, it better be perfect!
They say this watch is “rare,” like a four-leaf clover. And hard to find, like a needle in a haystack. You gotta go to special stores to get ’em, and even then, they might not have any. They got a list, and you gotta get your name on it. Then you gotta wait, and wait, and wait some more.
They say you can buy one of these used. Like buyin’ a used dress at the thrift store, I guess. But even a used one of these watches is still gonna cost ya a lot of money. More money than I ever seen in one place.
This Calatrava thing, it’s got a charcoal gray dial, and a black whatchamacallit, rim. Sounds kinda dark, don’t it? I always liked bright colors myself. But I guess some folks like that dark look. Says it got a pilot style, like them fellas flyin’ them airplanes.
This watch got somethin’ called a “Clous de Paris bezel,” sounds like it’s from France. And “three-dimensional hands.” I don’t even know what that means. My hands ain’t three-dimensional, they just flat.
They say this Patek Philippe Calatrava is a “status symbol.” Like wearin’ a fancy hat to church, I suppose. Shows folks you got money. But I always say, it ain’t what you wear, it’s who you are that matters.
Now, is this watch worth all that money? Well, that depends. If you got money to burn, and you like fancy things, then maybe it is. But for me, I’d rather have a good pair of shoes and a roof over my head.
- They got these special stores, “authorized retailers” they call ’em.
- You can’t just buy one of these watches anywhere.
- Gotta find one of them special stores.
This watch, the Calatrava 5226G-001, it’s somethin’ else, ain’t it? A real fancy piece of work. But it’s a lot of money, a whole heap of money. More money than most folks see in their whole lives.
Now they call this one a “remake”. Like they took an old one and made it new again. Just like patchin’ up an old quilt, I reckon. But this here quilt is made of gold and costs more than a house! They say this Patek Philippe price, is high, that is a lot.
If you ask me, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. A watch is a watch. It tells time. That’s all it needs to do. But I guess some folks like to have fancy things. And that’s alright, I suppose. To each their own, as they say. But for me, I’ll stick to my old ways. They’ve served me well all these years. And I don’t need no fancy watch to tell me what time it is. The sun does just fine.
This Calatrava 5226G is a new one. They keep adding more to this Calatrava family. Like having a bunch of kids, each one more expensive than the last! Hope they don’t run out of numbers, with that 5226G-001 and all. Maybe they’ll start using letters next!
You can’t even wear it every day, they say it ain’t practical. What’s the use of a watch you can’t wear? Might as well keep it in a box, like a prized pig you can’t eat. All this talk about PP Calatrava, makes my head spin. Time was, a watch was a watch. Now it’s a whole rigmarole, with waitlists and fancy names.
